Position: Security Officer
Experience Required: 5 – 7 years
Location: Borno

The Security Officer, reporting directly to the Security Manager, will play a key role in reducing risks to staff, programs, and assets by providing specialized knowledge and dedicated security management support.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the ongoing implementation of safety and security protocols to ensure strong protection for personnel, resources, and programs.

Maintain a high level of awareness of the security context in the area of operation while ensuring strong coordination with both program and support teams.

Foster a culture of safety and security at field locations through continuous training and awareness activities.

Support security risk assessments (SRAs) that take into account contextual risks and ensure the protection of FHI 360 staff, eligible dependents, property, facilities, and programs, in alignment with organizational policies.

Assist state and field offices in day-to-day security operations, ensuring prompt responses to incidents whether natural or man-made.

Oversee guard companies and other contracted security providers to ensure compliance with agreements.

Manage physical safety systems, fire protection measures, and evacuation drills.

Build relationships with key security stakeholders to share information and, where possible, coordinate advocacy on security concerns.

Represent FHI 360 at security forums such as INSO/UNDSS and provide updates from these meetings.

Enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for operations in the North-East.

Draft security advisories for both general use and specific incidents during heightened risks.

As part of the North-East Security Team, respond to incidents involving staff and assets, provide timely updates, and recommend suitable actions.

Carry out any other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong command of English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to use technical terminology.

Good judgment and the ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.

Strong skills in analysis, evaluation, and strategic planning.

Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Excellent interpersonal and presentation abilities.

Proven capacity to work under pressure in challenging conditions.

Understanding of Nigeria’s historical, social, and political context.

Qualifications and Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Security Management or a related discipline (preferred).

Professional certification in security risk management or advanced security management is highly valued.

Additional security or management certifications will be an advantage.

5–7 years of professional experience in the security sector, preferably in complex or high-risk environments.

At least 3 years in a security management role within an NGO or donor-funded project.

Experience liaising with law enforcement authorities in Nigeria.

Proven ability to manage incidents, create incident maps, and prepare high-quality reports and security assessments.

Minimum of 2 years managing security operations in hostile or insecure contexts.
